I provide training on the following topics, adapted to meet the needs of the target audience. Ideally all workshops are fully intereactive with debate and discussion to enable participants to examine issues of particular interest to them.

  1. The world of journals - new developments, initiatives and models
  2. International journal standards
  3. Launching new journals
  4. The role of editors, editorial teams and making the best of editorial boards
  5. Working with authors:  Securing the best content
  6. Raising journal and article visibility
  7. Developing a journal (either from an editorial or publishing perspective)
  8. Ethics for editors and publishers
  9. Assessing impact: bibliometrics and alternative metrics
  10. Legal aspects of editing (copyright, plagiarism, moral rights)

For any enquiries, please email me. I am happy to develop single- or multi-day courses for editorial or publishing groups and regularly run courses on request from individual journals and publishers.

I train regularly for the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) on developing a journal, introduction to copyright, introduction to publishing, bibliometrics and managing the editorial office.

I provide regular training for KnowledgeE, working with groups in different middle eastern countries, for example I have run workshops in Egypt, Dubai and Azerbaijan to help develop their journals and meet international standards.

I have provided regular training events in China and Korea for a variety of organizations, and a series of outreach workshops for Crossref (in China, Lithuania and South Africa).

Distance, blended, online training

I have developed several distance learning, blended, online courses. These include the following:

  • An online course for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on copyright and sellling rights.
  • An online course for editors of a large publisher to support and encourage better ethical practices
  • Two online courses on how to become a successful journal editor, and how to review articles, written for PKP School
  • A blended learning course for ALPSP on an introduction to journals.

NOTE: I am currently developing a distance learning course for editors, adapting my medical editors course into a format that can be used by editors (in any discipline) that are unable to attend my workshops. It is scheduled for launch in 2017. If you are interested please do email me.
